Week 6 Recap

So in week 6 my picks go 9-4 and we see the parity in the league. A league in which, the Rams get slaughtered 44-6 one week at the hands of the Detroit Lions and then they go and beat the San Diego Chargers. Week 6 provided a couple of big hits, with the league looking to stiffen their discipline on hits they find to be excessive or unprofessional. What will week 7 hold?

NFL Week 6 Predictions

Miami Dolphins 2-2(2-0 Away) at Green Bay Packers 3-2(2-0 Home)
1:00 PM Lambeau Field

The Miami Dolphins take their act on the road as they look to capture a win at historic Lambeau Field this Sunday. Green Bay Packers' QB Aaron Rodgers has been cleared to play by the team doctor and an independent neurologist and the Packers' feel good about star rookie LB Clay Matthews hamstring. The Dolphins have three straight wins against NFC opponents. The Packers' have holes in their rush defense and Miami RBs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams should exploit that; Green Bay's rush defense is allowing 118.3 yards a game with a 5.2 yards per carry. With the return of ILB Channing Crowder, the Dolphins should be able to create pressure on Rodgers and force him into mistakes.
My Pick: Miami Dolphins
Players to watch: MIA Ronnie Brown, Brandon Marshall, Channing Crowder
GB   Aaron Rodgers, Clay Matthews, Greg Jennings, Charles Woodson

New Orleans Saints 3-2(1-1 Away) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers #-1(1-1 Home)
1:00 PM Raymond James Stadium

The Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints head down to Raymond James Stadium to take on the Buccaneers in this pivotal NFC South battle. The Saints are 5-4 all-time at Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers stake claim to the league's premiere rookie receiver in Mike Williams, who has 19 receptions for 238 yards and 3 TDs; but a mediocre pass game and ground game is a recipe for disaster. The Buccaneers allow 143 yards a game on the ground and that could be what jump starts a non-existent Saints rush game which ranks 31st in the league.
My Pick: New Orleans Saints
Players to watch: NO Drew Brees, Marques Colston, Lance Moore
TB Mike Williams, Josh Freeman, Aqib Talib

Dallas Cowboys 1-3(1-1 Away) at Minnesota Vikings 1-3(1-1 Home)
4:15 PM Mall of America Field

Two of the NFL's most disappointing teams do battle in the Metrodome this Sunday. After storming back on Monday Night, the Vikings fell short. Brett Favre's tendinitis(elbow) is acting up but he will give it a go in this important match up on Sunday; a win could salvage the Vikings' season. Dallas does have one the league's most feared pass rush with DeMarcus Ware leading the charge with 6 of the team's 9 total sacks. Dallas averages a sack every 14 pass plays and Minnesota allows a sack just about every 14 pass plays Favre is 10-1 in the Metrodome as the Vikings starting quarterback. Randy Moss has not lost a game in which he has played against Dallas. Dallas averages 421.4 yards a game on offense and wide receiver Miles Austin already has 3 100-yard games this year. Minnesota RB Adrian Peterson has 480 yards on the ground this year, gaining 5.5 yards a carry, and he may be the difference maker in this contest.
My Pick: Minnesota Vikings
Players to watch: DAL Tony Romo, Miles Austin, Dez Bryant,
                                       DeMarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer
MIN Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson. Randy Moss,
Percy Harvin, Jared Allen, Chad Greenway

Indianapolis Colts 3-2(1-2 Away) at Washington Redskins 3-2(2-1 Home)
8:20 PM FedEx Field

Both the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Redskins are coming off gritty wins. The Colts will arrive at FedEx field with one of the league's top passing offenses(317.2 yards?game), and future Hall of Famer QB Peyton Manning who has passed for 1'609 yards and 11 TDs. The Redskins are allowing 298.0 yards a game through the air. The receiving tandem of WRs Reggie Wayne and Austin Collie, who both happen to have 35 or more receptions each, will present major match up issues for the Skins. To have a chance to win the Redskins will have to employ the rush game in order to the control clock and play keep away, this happens to be the Colts defensive weakness as they allow 142.2 yards a game on the ground. The have won six straight games against NFC opponents. Indianapolis hasn't missed a field goal yet this year and the game may come down to a field goal.
My Pick: Indianapolis Colts
Players to watch: IND Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Austin Collie
                                      Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis
WAS Donovan McNabb, Ryan Torain, Santana Moss
                                       London Fletcher, D'Angelo Hall

Tennessee Titans 3-2(2-0 Away) at Jacksonville Jaguars 3-2(2-1 Home)
8:30 PM Everbank Field

AFC South supremacy is on the line on Monday night when coach Jeff Fisher leads his 3-2 Titans down to Jacksonville to take on the Jags. In their last meeting the ground game was on display and both Chris Johnson and Maurice Jones-Drew did not disappoint, combining for 405 yards and 4 touchdowns. In eight of the last nine meetings between the two franchises, the team that gained the most on the ground walked away with the win. Titans' WR Kenny Britt  has a TD catch in three straight games and gives Vince Young a viable weapon.  Jags' rookie KR/RB Deji Karim(36.3 yards/return) could be a deciding factor in this game, the stellar return man goes up the 28th ranked kickoff coverage team in the Titans.
My Pick: Tennessee Titans
Players to watch: TEN Vince Young, Chris Johnson, Kenny Britt
                                       Jason Babin, Stephen Tulloch
JAC Maurice Jones-Drew, Daryl Smith, Mercedes Lewis
                                       Rashean Mathis

NFL Week 6 Predictions

Kansas City Chiefs 3-1(1-1 Away) at Houston Texans 3-2(1-2 Away)
1:00 PM Reliant Stadium

In this great AFC showdown, the Kansas City Chiefs travel for a second consecutive week to take on an AFC South opponent. Todd Haley has coached his team to victories in four of the previous five games. The Texans are coming off a dismal performance in which they were manhandled by the New York Giants 34-10 at home. The ground game is crucial in this contest and both teams are ranked in the top five in this category in the league. The Chiefs' Jamaal Charles averages 6.5 yards a carry, and the Texans' Arian Foster is the NFL's leading rusher with 562 yards on the ground. Both teams are also exceptional defending the run, the Chiefs rank 6th and the Texans rank 5th. Mistakes were a big cause of the Texans loss the previous week and the Chiefs' under coach Todd Haley are playing smart this year, only two the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Buccaneers have been penalized fewer times. A difference maker in this match up could be special teams, an area in which Kansas City ranks in the top ten in ten different statistical categories.
My Pick: Kansas City Chiefs
Players to watch: KC Jamaal Charles, Branden Albert, Brandon Flowers, Ron Edwards
Hou Mario Williams, Arian Foster, Demeco Ryans, Matt Schaub

New York Jets 4-1(2-0 Away) at Denver Broncos 2-3(1-1 Home)
4:05 PM Invesco Field at Mile High

The Denver Broncos head into Sunday's match up against the Jets after a 31-17 loss to Baltimore the previous week and with a bang up defense that will be missing starters OLB Robert Ayers(broken foot), S Brian Dawkins(knee), CB Andre Goodman(leg), S Darrel McBath(ankle), and LB Wesley Woodyard(hamstring). As if that wasn't enough adversity to overcome, the Jets are riding high after an emotional win on Monday Night against the Minnesota Vikings. The Jets defense are licking their chops at a chance to do Denver starting quarterback Kyle Orton as they did to Brett Farve the previous week, harass and force him into mistakes. Even tho Orton enters Sunday with three consecutive outings in which he has thrown for 300 yards, he has no supporting ground game to keep the Jets defense honest. The Broncos do have the NFL's leading receiver in Brandon Lloyd (30 receptions, 589 yards, 3TDs). The Jets come to town with 31 year old running back LaDainian Tomlinson (5.7 yards per carry), who seems to be rejuvenated and is a known Bronco killer; in 20 career games against Denver, Tomlinson has 18 career touchdowns.
My Pick: New York Jets
Players to watch: NYJ LaDainian Tomlinson, Antonio Cromartie, Brad Smith, Mark Sanchez
DEN Nate Jones, Jason Hunter, Eddie Royal, Kyle Orton

Oakland Raiders 2-3(0-2 Away) at San Francisco 49ers 0-5(0-2 Home)
4:05 PM Candlestick Park

The Niners look to get their first win of the season on Sunday at home when they face Bay Area neighboring Oakland Raiders. Mike Singletary and his squad have their back against the wall and that makes them very dangerous. The Raiders are coming off of an emotional comeback win over the Chargers and are looking to win back to back games for the first time since 2008. The Raiders gain 134.2 yards a game on the ground, but surrender 147.8 yards a game. The Niners are 8-0 when running back Frank Gore gains 172 are more yards  from scrimmage and that could be the difference maker in this year's edition of the Bay Area battle.
My Pick: San Francisco 49ers
Players to watch: SF Frank Gore, Michael Crabtree, Travis Laboy,Vernon Davis
OAK Michael Bush, Zach Miller, Nnamdi Asomugah

NFL Week 6 Predictions

Atlanta Falcons 4-1 (2-1 Away) at Philadelphia Eagles (0-2 Home) 1:00PM Lincoln Financial Field
A week after the Eagles narrowly escaped Candlestick Park with a win they are at home taking on the NFC South leading Atlanta Falcons. The Dirty Birds are riding a 4 game winning streak and are looking to avenge last years 34-7 loss to the Eagles. Michael Vick returns to the city he started his career with but he is still nursing his ribs and will likely see little or no action. With the return of wide receiver Michael Jenkins to the line up, the Falcons will be looking to put that passing offense on high gear, but that will be an arduous task against the NFL's 8th ranked pass defense and a defense which is also ranked 4th in receiving opposing quarterbacks' passes. The Eagles'  defensive blitz scheme will look to rattle Matt Ryan as it did Alex Smith the previous week. The Falcons have lost 3 straight against Philly and are looking to buck the trend this Sunday and I believe they will.
My Pick: Atlanta Falcons
Players to watch: ATL Jordan Babineaux, Michael Jenkins
                             PHI Kevin Kolb, Lesean McCoy

Cleveland Browns 1-4 (0-2 Away) at Pittsburgh Steelers 3-1 (1-1 Home) 1:00PM Heinz Field
Led by Eric Mangini, the Cleveland Browns travel to Heinz Field to take on the 3-1 Steelers. The injury bug has bitten the Browns and have given them no choice but to start former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy. It will be a daunting task for McCoy to move the ball against the Steel Curtain, especially when they rank 1st against the rush and 4th in total defense. Ben Roethlisberger makes his season debut after serving league suspension. Rashard Mendenhall, who averages 102.8 yards/game on the ground, will have a field day against the Browns defense and that will make Big Ben's return easy.
My Pick:Pittsburgh Steelers
Players to watch: CLE Colt McCoy, Josh Cribbs
PIT  Ben Roethlisberger, Rashard Mendenhall, Lawerance Timmons

Detroit Lions 1-4(0-3 Away) at New York Giants 3-2(2-1 Home) 1:00PM New Meadowlands Stadium
Detroit rides into New Meadowlands Stadium on an enormous high after there 44-6 rout of St. Louis. The Giants come home to New Jersey after a 34-10 dismantling of the Houston Texans. Detroit is win less on the road. Ahmad Bradshaw leads the league with 7 runs over 20 yards and that spells big plays for the G Men on Sunday because the Lions allow 133.2 yards/game on the ground. The league's top ranked defense, led by Osi Umenyiora (6 sacks and 5 forced fumbles), should have no trouble stopping the Lions.
My Pick:New York Giants
Players to watch: NYG Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck, Ahmad Bradshaw
                                        Hakeem Nicks, Eli Manning

Baltimore Ravens 4-1 (2-1 Away) at New England Patriots 3-1 (2-0 Home) 1:00PM Gillette Stadium
The AFC North Division leading Baltimore Ravens travel to Gillette Stadium to take on Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. The Patriots are looking for revenge after a 33-14 Wild card loss to the Ravens in past season's playoffs. The Patriots traded away Randy Moss last week and traded for Ex-Pat Deion Branch this week to try and maintain the level of excellence the New England offense which is averaging 26.2 points/games. If the Ravens are to have a chance to upset the Pats they will have to stop Tom Brady on third down(124.4 QB Rating, 5 TDs, 70.6 completion percentage), and with the return of Ed Reed I think Ravens are up to the task.
My Pick:Baltimore Ravens
Players to watch: BAL Ray Rice, Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Anquan Boldin
NE   Tom Brady, Wes Welker, Aaron Hernandez

San Diego Chargers 2-3 (0-3 Away) at St. Louis Rams 2-3 (2-1) 1:00PM Edward Jones Stadium
In this AFC vs NFC battle the San Diego Chargers take on the Rams. San Diego is win less on the road ans the Rams' only 2 wins came at home. Last week the Rams looked less than stellar in a 44-6 loss to the Oakland Raiders, which means the Chargers have a great chance of reversing their misfortunes on the road. St. Louis lose Mark Clayton to a patella injury, possibly season-ending, and this an anemic offense will be even more ineffective this week when they take on the NFL's 5th ranked defense. The return offensive lineman of Marcus McNeil should aid Phillip Rivers who is the league's passing leader (351.8 passing yards/game, 11TDs). With only Steven Jackson as the bright on the Rams' roster this game could get ugly early.
My Pick:San Diego Chargers
Players to watch: SD Phillip Rivers, Antonio Gates
                             STL Steven Jackson
